Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Umbra, you agree to these terms. Please read them. They are written in plain language because you deserve to understand what you're agreeing to.

1. What Umbra Is

Umbra is a self-reflection and shadow work tool that uses astrology and AI to generate personalized readings and journaling prompts. It is intended for personal growth and introspection.

2. Who Can Use Umbra

• You must be 18 or older to create an account
• You must provide accurate information during onboarding
• One account per person — you may not share accounts
• You may not create accounts on behalf of others without their consent

3. Your Account

• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account
• You may delete your account at any time
• We may suspend accounts that violate these terms

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use Umbra for any unlawful purpose
• Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or extract data from the app
• Circumvent subscription limits or access paid features without payment
• Share your account or subscription access with others
• Use Umbra in any way that could harm yourself or others

5. Subscriptions and Payments

Free tier

Umbra offers a free tier with limited features as described in the app. No payment required.

Paid subscriptions

• Billed monthly or annually as selected at checkout
• Payments processed by Stripe — you are subject to Stripe's terms
• Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date
• You may cancel at any time — cancellation takes effect at end of current billing period
• We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law

Price changes

We may change subscription prices with 30 days notice. If you do not accept the new price, cancel before the change takes effect.

6. Your Content

You own everything you write in Umbra. Your journal entries, reflections, and responses are yours. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it for any purpose beyond operating the app.

7. AI-Generated Content

Umbra uses AI to generate astrological readings and shadow work prompts. You acknowledge that:

• AI-generated content is for reflective and personal growth purposes only
• Readings are not predictions, diagnoses, or professional advice of any kind
• AI can make errors and should not be relied upon for medical, legal, financial, or mental health decisions
• The same transit may generate different readings on different occasions
• Umbra is designed to prompt reflection — not to tell you what to do or what will happen

8. Not a Mental Health Service

Umbra engages with personal and emotionally significant themes. This is intentional — shadow work requires honest engagement with difficult material. However:

• Umbra is not a licensed mental health provider
• No content in Umbra constitutes therapy, counseling, or clinical treatment
• If content in Umbra brings up distress that feels unmanageable, please seek support from a qualified professional
• Umbra cannot provide emergency assistance

9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

Umbra is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law:

• We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free
• We do not warrant the accuracy of astrological calculations or AI-generated content
• We are not liable for any decisions you make based on content in the app
• We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
• Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding any claim

10. Intellectual Property

Umbra, its design, voice, system prompts, and original content are owned by Umbra and protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute any part of the app without written permission. Astrological data is calculated using open source astronomical libraries.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of San Francisco County, California.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the app evolves. We will notify you of material changes at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
